If Water Is Pooling Here, Your Concrete Could Be Trying to Tell You Something

After a heavy rain, it's normal to see a few puddles around your yard. But if water consistently pools on your driveway, sidewalk, or patio, it could be more than just an inconvenience. It may be an early warning sign that your concrete is beginning to lose the support beneath it.


Many homeowners assume standing water will simply evaporate, and everything will be fine. In reality, repeated pooling can slowly contribute to the very problem that causes concrete to sink in the first place.


Water naturally follows the path of least resistance. When it collects in the same spot over and over, it begins to work its way into the soil beneath your concrete. Over time, that water can wash away or weaken the soil supporting the slab, creating small empty spaces known as voids.


At first, these voids are impossible to see from the surface. Your driveway or sidewalk may still look perfectly level, but underneath, the support holding it up is slowly disappearing. As those voids grow, the concrete has less and less support until it eventually begins to settle.
